Ieshia Ali, Co-founder/Co-director
Ieshia Ali, an enthusiastic native of Seattle, WA and long time Washington, DC resident is a certified yoga and Pilates instructor. An extensive history of high school gymnastics and modern dance segued into a desire to maintain health, vitally and flexibility. In 1996, a pinched nerve brought on by years of punishing "cardio" and a recent car accident sent her seeking the attention of a chiropractor. To her surprise and instantaneous delight he introduced her to yoga as a means to manage sciatica and avoid back surgery. After her first few "club" classes she was devoted and soon after added Pilates to her work outs.
Her affection for yoga continued to grow as she found it particularly easy to “practice” on airplanes and hotel rooms during her 3yr. stint as an Operations Manager for a French conglomerate. Long business flights to Europe, Australia, Japan, Singapore and many other Far East destinations took a toll on her mind and body thus she credits the discipline and grace of asana and pranayama for enabling her to maintain a healthy lifestyle, especially on the road.
Soon after, Ieshia embraced the opportunity to deepen her practice and learn the art of teaching the ancient discipline of Hatha yoga. It was during this time that life offered yet another challenge, a diagnosis of Thyroid cancer in 2004. As a new mom, and budding yogini, Ieshia met this challenge head on with a wonder team of Western and Eastern healers from Philadelphia to Seattle. Her integrated approach to treatment has been successful and her personal practice has continued to deepen through this spiritual and physical experience.
Ieshia recently added Powerhouse Pilates Mat certification to her resume and concluded her Yoga Alliance recognized (200hr) Hatha certification at Yoga on Main, Philadelphia in Jan 2004. She also teaches Children and Prenatal mothers the discipline and whimsy of yoga.
Her teaching style is a blend of pranayama, vinyasa, aromatherapy and Thai massage to create an experience of mindfulness and reflection of the individual as not simply human but celestial beings. She weaves interesting world beat music, mindful meditations along with focus on energetic anatomy and physical alignment. Ieshia believes that energy modulates alternating between highs and lows, motion and rest during which time, order and balance are restored to the system. She has taught in Seattle, Philadelphia, Miami, Virginia and Washington, DC.
Ieshia is also a freelance writer, wife and mother of 1 extraordinary human being!
