SHAKTI Styles

SHAKTI’s philosophy is that there are many paths to achieving true balance in the body, mind, and soul. Influenced by a range of Eastern and Western philosophies, SHAKTI is committed to helping each person realize their own potential. Below are the many styles of yoga we share.

Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa/Flow Yoga links the asana movements with deep rhythmic breathing. By connecting the movements and breath, you are able to enhance the health benefits of each pose, increase muscular strength, improve flexibility and joint mobility, increase circulation, balance hormones, and most of all create a sense of calmness, focus, and heighten awareness. As the breath and the movements are seamlessly united, the body, mind, and soul fully connect and create “divine union” called yoga. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life. At SHAKTI, our instructors are inspired by Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, and infuse their own life experiences to enhance and guide you through a voyage of inner connection and awakening.

Anusara Yoga
Anusara (a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “flowing with Nature,” “following your heart.”
Founded by John Friend in 1997, Anusara yoga is a school of hatha yoga, which unifies a life-affirming Shiva-Shakti Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment. (www.anusara.com) In an anusara class, expect to learn consistent alignment to enhance your connection with your body, while also connecting to the greater context for your yoga practice through an understanding of how the experiences presented through your yoga practice can inspire your life.

Ashtanga
Based on the teachings of Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois from Mysore, India, employs an energizing series of postures linked by the breath, improving circulation and creating a deep internal heat that cleanses and purifies muscles and organs. Through this vigorous and strengthening practice, awaken your core energies and watch the mind flow toward a natural state of meditation. This class will challenge you in a new way, but it is open to all levels (some yoga knowledge is recommended).
